Light Play

an immersive chamber music experience

On Friday 30 October 2015, we transformed the UQ Art Museum with sound and light for Light Play – an immersive chamber music experience – an evening of all new chamber music by Connor D'Netto + Ben Heim for voices, piano, strings, flute, clarinet and electronics. Created in response to the museum's exhibit Light Play: Ideas, Optics, Atmosphere, we created a program of all premieres, leading the audience on a journey through the exhibit with musicians spread throughout the space, all underpinned by surround sound electronics and a self-playing player piano.

Supported by the University of Queensland Art Museum in association with the exhibition

"Upon viewing Light Play: Ideas, Optics, Atmosphere, we were immediately engaged by the contrasting concepts and variety of visual mediums. By taking direct and indirect influence from the artworks, we have created series of works to guide the audience through exhibit, placing musical art alongside visual art to highlight, contrast and compliment. The music draws equal influence from the artwork’s visual patterning and colour as from the ideas and emotion embodied in the art. Throughout, the audience is encouraged to experience the event from the vantage of their choosing – moving around the space following musical, visual and artistic ideas at their leisure."
