Brisbane’s Argo turns best-selling book into space opera

Brisbane’s Argo turns best-selling book into space opera

"Ever wondered what another universe would sound like? Brisbane classical/electronic duo Argo will show you this month when they set best-selling sci-fi novel Illuminae to music for the Brisbane Writers Festival.

The duo is made up of young composers Connor D’Netto and Ben Heim, and together they’ve created a cinematic, “surround sound” experience that’s set to place audiences in the centre of this explosive book from Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Think artificial intelligence and star cruiser battles against a backdrop of live strings and electronics.

Sounds pretty cool, huh?"

"Descending into the dark depths of the surreal (and slightly creepy) Spring Hill Reservoir, Brisbane duo Argo are set to deliver an otherworldly experience at their latest immersive concert Flow.

Taking place next Friday night, 6 May, Flow combines classical and electronic music with acoustic instruments to create a unique soundscape and mesmerising atmosphere for listeners to lose themselves in."

Contemporary classical in surround sound with Argo

Contemporary classical in surround sound with Argo

"Contemporary classical composition in surround sound? We’ll take that.

It’s the latest offering from classical/electronic/genius duo Argo, and it comes in the form of a world premiere at St John’s Cathedral.

The Brisbane two-piece is made up of emerging composers Ben Heim and Connor D’Netto, who have taken their inspiration from the venue’s architecture to craft another world of sound and light.

Visuals will be projected across the largest vaulted ceiling of any cathedral in Australia, while genres are challenged with atmospheric music from two pianos, flutes, strings, and soundscapes reverberating into the night.

Ben and Connor chat about Meditations – the first gig in their 2016 series."

The creative duo aims to challenge our ideas about live performance, and combines the elements of sound and light for audiences to live through an electronic-infused, atmospheric experience in the University of Queensland Art Museum."
